A Londoner by birth, David Seidler was educated in America, receiving a BA in English from Cornell University, an MA in Dramatic Literature from the University of Washington, followed by a stint as Playwright In Residence (cum Property Master) at the San Francisco Actors’ Workshop.
Theatre includes: Claudius The Idiot, The God Of San Francisco, The Short Circuit of Ludwig Underman and The Playroom. The King’s Speech is Seidler’s first commercial stage production.
Television includes: Malice In Wonderland starring Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Alexander; Onassis, The Richest Man In The World (which won a Writers’ Guild Of America Achievement Award) with Raul Julia, Anthony Quinn, Francesca Annis, and Jane Seymour; My Father, My Son with Karl Malden and Keith Carradine (nominated for a WGA. Award); By Dawn’s Early Light (another WGA nomination); and more than a dozen other produced TV credits.
Film includes: Commencing with dubbing scripts for Godzilla The Monster movies, Seidler’s three decade career in Hollywood includes Sylvia with Tom Wilkinson and Eleanor David, Tucker, The Man And His Dream directed by Francis Coppola, starring Jeff Bridges; and The King’s Speech for which Seidler won two BAFTAs and an Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.Back to creative
